Research Imaging Information System

RIIS is the Division of Radiological Sciences' Research Imaging Information System. It consists of several different modules, two of which have been made available through the World Wide Web: (1) the entry of Investigator Information and (2) the entry and submission of a Research Application Form (view Flow Chart). By placing the Research Application Form (see an example form) on the Web, users on all platforms (Unix, Dos, Mac) have the ability to electronically enter and submit their applications for review. Automating the process also simplifies the procedure of importing the information into the database, as all of the applications are in a similar format.

Eventually, a third module of RIIS will be implemented. Software running on the scanner consoles will prompt the investigator for login name and protocol number. This information will be recorded in the database, along with the duration of the scan. It can then be used for the purposes of tracking scanner usage and, in the case of division assets, accounting purposes.

All investigators who conduct studies on the Research MR/PET Scanners need to complete the Investigator Information Form. The information requested includes:

  • Name
  • Academic Rank
  • Academic Affiliation
  • E-mail Address
  • Login name for scanners
  • Phone Number
  • Box Number
  • MR Certification (Yes/No)
  • Successful Completion of Radiation Safety Exam (Yes/No)
  • Contact Address (if Non-Washington University Investigator)
The information entered through the Investigator Information Form will be used when completing the Research Application Form.

The Research Application Form is basically a document which defines a particular protocol. It contains the purpose, requirements, associated codes and approval dates, and identifies all other pertinent information. The individual completing the application must know the login names of each of the investigators/collaborators that are to be named in the protocol. When the application is saved, the remaining information for the investigators/collaborators, as well as any designated budget information, will be retrieved from the database.

In order to connect to the RIIS page, you will need a user name and password. If you have already completed the Investigator Information Form, the username and password you entered on the form will gain you access to the RIIS forms. Otherwise, a username and password can be obtained by sending e-mail to RIIS@npg.wustl.edu. The user name and password will be e-mailed to you within 24 hours.
